Allyix  ·  Holiday Velvet

One velvet bow, two sizes. The finishing touch.

Deep red velvet, padded with cotton so the loops stay full, with an elastic loop at the top so it hangs in ten seconds. A 13-inch statement bow for the tree, the wreath and the mantel – or a 7.8-inch one for smaller wreaths, chair backs, gifts and the tabletop tree. Wherever the room needs one more thing, this is the thing.

Quick rule
Buying one bow for one spot? Match the size to the How many bows? table below. Buying several, mix them: the 13 in where the eye lands first, the 7.8 in everywhere else.

Up close

What you’re holding.

A bow that’s sewn and stuffed, not tied from ribbon. That changes how it looks and how it behaves.

Close-up of the red velvet bow on linen showing the velvet pile and the red elastic hanging cord at the top
I
Velvet face
Short, dense pile that reads matte red from across the room – no satin glare under the tree lights, and it photographs as red rather than orange.
II
Cotton-padded loops
Both loops and the center knot are filled, so the bow holds its rounded, full shape on its own – nothing to re-fluff, no ribbon to re-tie.
III
Elastic loop on top
A red cord sewn into the top of the knot. Hook it over a branch, a nail, a wreath wire or a garland stem and let go.
IV
Two soft tails
The tails fall to the bottom of the bow’s height and drape rather than stick out – they follow the curve of a wreath or the swag of a garland, in either size.
Scale check
The 13 in bow is 13 in across the loops and 11.4 in from the top of the loops to the tail ends – wider than a sheet of letter paper and nearly as tall; it’s a statement bow for a full-size tree or a 20-inch-plus wreath. The 7.8 in bow is 7.8 in both ways – about a salad plate – for everything the big one would overwhelm. Neither is a gift-bag bow.

Why velvet, why padded

Ribbon bows sag. This one doesn’t.

Anyone who has re-tied a wired-ribbon bow every December knows the problem. A stuffed velvet bow solves it in a different way.

Shape
Full on day one, full on day thirty
The cotton filling keeps both loops rounded – there’s no ribbon to slump and nothing to re-fluff after the cat walks past.
Color
The red that matches everything
Deep classic red – it sits right with fresh or faux greenery, gold and brass, tartan, white and silver, and the ornaments you already own.
Speed
Ten seconds to hang
No wire to twist, no floral pins, no tying skills. Loop the cord over something and adjust the tails. Moving it to a different spot takes another ten.
Texture
Soft where everything else shines
Between glass baubles, tinsel and lights, matte velvet is the one surface that absorbs light – which is exactly why the eye lands on it.
Size
Two sizes, one job
Thirteen inches holds its own on a 7 ft tree, a mantel garland or a front-door wreath. Seven-point-eight does the same on a tabletop tree, an 18 in wreath, a chair back or a gift box – the scale changes, the focal point doesn’t.
Reuse
Made to come back out
It’s a fabric bow, not a stick-on gift bow. Take it off the tree in January, lay it flat in the box, and it’s ready for next year – and the gift-topper it goes on gets kept.

Where it goes

Six places one bow finishes the job.

Made for the tree and the wreath – and for every other spot that looked almost done.

Collage: the 7.8 inch red velvet bow as a tree topper under a snowflake, and hanging on a garland-wrapped banister
01
The tree
13 in: front and center in the upper third of a 6–7.5 ft tree, where a topper would sit if you don’t use one – one is enough. 7.8 in: the same spot on a tabletop or pencil tree, or three spaced down the front of a full tree.
02
The wreath
Loop the cord over the wreath’s hanging wire so the bow sits at twelve o’clock, or hook it onto a stem at seven o’clock for the florist look. 13 in for a 20–30 in wreath, 7.8 in for 12–18 in.
03
The mantel garland
Hang the 13 in from the center of the swag, tails down. On a mantel wider than 6 ft, add a 7.8 in at each end – big in the middle, small at the ends reads as a set.
04
The banister
A 13 in at each newel post and one in the middle – a 10 ft staircase takes three – or 7.8 in bows every 2–3 ft along a garland-wrapped rail.
05
The front door
The 13 in over a plain evergreen wreath or straight onto a door hook; the 7.8 in on a slim wreath or the knocker. Covered porch only – see the care note about weather.
06
The gifts
Slip the loop under the ribbon – the 7.8 in on a standard box, the 13 in on the largest one under the tree. It’s the topper that comes off before the paper tears and gets used again.

How to hang it

Out of the box and up in a minute.

01
Unbox and plump
Squeeze the loops gently from the sides to round them out. Velvet pile that’s been pressed flat in shipping lifts with a soft brush or a minute in bathroom steam – never an iron.
02
Pick the anchor
A branch, a wreath wire, a garland stem, a nail, a cup hook or a removable adhesive hook – the bow is light, so anything that holds the cord holds the bow.
03
Loop it on
Hook the elastic cord over the anchor. On a tree, push the loop a few inches into the branch so the knot sits against the greenery instead of dangling in front of it.
04
Set the tails
Let the tails hang straight for a formal look, or spread them to follow the curve of a wreath. Step back six feet and check it from where guests will see it.

How many bows?

One is a statement. Three is a scheme.

Designer’s rule
Bows look intentional in odd numbers – one or three – and at equal spacing, and a mix of sizes works when the big one sits where the eye lands first. If you’re buying for a banister or a wide mantel, plan the count before you order rather than adding one later and hunting for a match.

Care & storage

Treat it like velvet.

Woman in a cream sweater hanging the large red velvet bow on a decorated Christmas tree
  • ✦Brush, don’t wash. Dust with a soft clothes brush or a lint roller in the direction of the pile. Spot-clean only with a barely damp cloth; don’t soak the padding.
  • ✦Steam, never iron. A crease from the box lifts with a soft brush or a few minutes hanging in a steamy bathroom. An iron flattens velvet pile permanently.
  • ✦Keep it dry. Indoors, or under a fully covered porch. Rain and snow mark velvet and soak the cotton filling; direct sun fades the red.
  • ✦Away from flame and hot bulbs. Above the mantel is fine; hanging into the firebox, next to candles or on hot incandescent bulbs is not.
  • ✦Décor, not a toy. A stuffed bow with an elastic cord – keep it out of reach of babies, toddlers and dogs that chew.
  • ✦Store flat, not crushed. Lay it on top of the ornament box, not underneath it. Padded loops recover from light pressure; a season under a box of baubles is another matter.

Questions

Asked before adding to cart

How big are they, really?

The 13 in bow is about 13 in across the loops and 11.4 in from the top of the loops to the bottom of the tails – bigger than a sheet of letter paper in both directions; it’s sized for a full tree, a 20-inch-plus wreath or a mantel garland. The 7.8 in bow is 7.8 in both ways – about a salad plate – for tabletop trees, smaller wreaths, chair backs and gift boxes.

Which size should I get?

Ask what it’s going on. Full-size tree, 20 in+ wreath, mantel center, banister post, front door: 13 in. Tabletop or pencil tree, 12–18 in wreath, chair back, lantern, cabinet door, standard gift box: 7.8 in. If it’s a toss-up, take the 13 in for a single focal bow and the 7.8 in when you’re buying several.

Can I mix the two sizes?

Yes – it usually looks better than all one size. Put the 13 in where the eye lands first (center of the mantel, top of the wreath, front of the tree) and the 7.8 in bows at the ends, on the gifts and down the stairs. Same velvet, same red, so they read as one set.

Is it bright red or burgundy?

A deep, classic Christmas red – it reads brighter against greenery and lights and darker against a white wall, as velvet does.

How does it attach?

An elastic loop is sewn into the top of the bow. Hook it over a branch, a wreath wire, a garland stem, a nail or an adhesive hook. There’s no wire or clip to fiddle with, and nothing to tie.

Can I put it on the front door?

Under a covered porch, yes. Fully exposed to rain and snow, we’d say no – velvet marks and the padding soaks up water.

Will it work as a tree topper?

It’s designed to hang from a branch rather than sit on the tip, but hung front and center in the upper third it does the visual job of a topper. If you want it right at the top, hook the loop over the leader and let the tails fall down the front.

Can I buy a set of three?

Each size is sold as a single bow – set the quantity at checkout.
